But we don’t stop there: we implement these technical solutions in-house and have a number of initiatives in place that use IT to reduce avoidable demands on the environment while continuing to meet the demands of our users and our business.

Our IT infrastructure
Esteem’s IT infrastructure uses a complementary mix of technologies from leading IT suppliers including Sun, Citrix, Microsoft, VMware and Dell to reduce power consumption and space. For example, thin client devices consume less power compared to PCs; virtualisation technologies enable us to maximise the performance of servers, reducing the hardware and energy required; and by choosing the latest hardware wherever possible, such as Blade servers, we benefit from more efficient processing while using less energy and consuming less space.
Our mobile workforce
Green Computing isn’t just about the choice over one more efficient technology over another; it’s about how we use the technology.
At Esteem we have invested in mobile working solutions for staff that spend a lot of time out of the office. All of our consultants, engineers and members of the sales team are equipped with the technical resources they need to access core applications while they’re on the move. This not only saves time and helps us to deliver an improved quality of service to our customers; it reduces unnecessary travelling time to and from the office and pollution. To make further energy savings, we are now piloting a home-working scheme.
