Swinton Ensures Costs Are Kept Low Through New IT Infrastructure

3 June 2003

Esteem Systems, one of the UK’s leading IT systems solutions providers, has won a significant £300k contract to design and supply a new central IT infrastructure for the Swinton Insurance Group.

The Group was experiencing problems with increasing desktop support costs and finding the IT requirements of its growing team both time consuming and difficult to manage. In addition, the Group needed to be able to support executives whilst out of the office by providing access to e-mail, calendar and corporate information.

Esteem Systems was selected by Swinton because of its extensive experience in delivering information and applications to mobile and remote workers combined with a significant understanding of how centralised server based computing can assist with reducing the total cost of IT ownership.

Esteem recommended a solution that would use Citrix MetaFrame XPe, Microsoft Exchange 2000 and Terminal Services. The solution also encompassed the issues of data storage and management, addressed through a suite of storage management software. The total solution provides broader application and information access, better performance and ease of management.

Alastair Kitching, Director of Esteem’s Server Based Computing Division said: “A lot of organisations we work with are beginning to see the benefits of rapid application and information delivery to their increasingly mobile and remote workforce. By investing in centralised server based IT infrastructure solutions they will ultimately reduce the total cost of ownership and gain greater efficiency in the short term.”
