Esteem To Help Modernise Sussex Police's IT Infrastructure
26 August 2003
In a deal worth over £2.5m, Esteem Systems, one of the UK’s leading IT systems solutions providers, and criminal justice software specialists, ABM, have secured a contract to deliver the IT infrastructure and application software for Project Nemesis for Sussex Police, which will revolutionise the way criminal intelligence is managed in the region.
Esteem’s role within the project will be to design, configure and install a new IT infrastructure solution to support the Incident Management System (IMS) provided by ABM. As well as providing on-going consultancy services and the technical know-how required to make the project a success, Esteem will also be supplying the Sun Microsystems hardware on which ABM’s software will run.
As one of the largest projects of this type in the UK, work will take place in three stages and will enable full modernisation of Sussex’s aging IT system. The project will allow the integration of crime data such as intelligence information and stolen property, and enable this to be immediately available across the force. The project will also help Sussex Police to revisit business processes across its 30 sites with a view to increasing efficiency and reducing overheads.
Sussex Police will utilise ABM’s component based IMS solution integrated with Force Command and Control to provide Sussex with the ability to improve the recording of incidents, effectively manage intelligence information, address the needs of the RIP Act, Police Act Part III and Human Rights Act and allow data to be shared between divisions and the central registry. The solution will also enable tasking based on ethical and professional principles.
The hardware which will support this software was recommended to give Sussex Police high availability twenty four hours a day and will include a
Sun Fire 6800 twin domain server running applications on one side an data on the other, a Sun StorEdge 3900 Series Storage Area Network to house the data, a Sun StorEdge L25 Tape Library with auto loader to provide backup, a
Sun Fire V480 server, a Sun Fire 6800 management server and Sun’s StorEdge D2000 array.
Nigel Howard, IT Programme Manager, said: “This new Crime Intelligence and Management System will provide us with a much more integrated solution and improve data quality throughout.
“Up to date technology is an important tool in the fight against crime and this is something Sussex Police not only recognises but proactively takes steps to operate using this principle. The project ahead will be an exciting one and we are all looking forward to experiencing the benefits.”
