Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Call On Oracle Specialist Skills To Implement New Portal

24 March 2003

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service has called on the specialist Oracle skills of one of the UK's leading providers of IT infrastructure solutions, Esteem Systems, to assist with the development of a new portal which will consolidate data systems throughout the organisation. The portal will provide web options for end users of the corporate database, and is a completely new area for the service.

The Fire Service is currently involved in an extensive project to create a single corporate (Oracle) database, which will be at the heart of the management process. Creating a single repository for information will result in significant savings in both time and money, centralise administration and enable the service to introduce new processes in the future.

Esteem provided guidance and advice on upgrading the existing Oracle database and re-formatting the licensing to allow unlimited named users across the service to be increased to over 600. In addition to the upgrade and licensing, Esteem implemented an Oracle 9i Application Server providing a state-of-the-art web platform for users to access predefined queries and reports from the corporate database. Esteem, an Oracle Partner Network Member with a team dedicated to working with Oracle technology, continues to provide consultancy services on an on-going basis as the project moves forward.

Project Manager Ian Greig said:" We have been able to progress this part of the project quickly thanks to guidance and advice on Oracle solutions from Esteem's specialist team. By working with professionals with advanced skill levels and experience of consolidation projects such as this one, we have been able to take advantage of the latest Oracle technology. We will continue to rely on Esteem to perform regular health checks on developments and to supply the hardware and software to complete this initiative."

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service is responsible for delivering fire and rescue services to over 700,000 people in Cambridgeshire and the City of Peterborough from 28 fire stations, Fire Control and its four Area Fire Safety Offices. The Service employs 280 wholetime and 380 retained firefighters, dealing with around 13,000 separate emergency incidents each year.
