Esteem Is Home of Places For People Contact

16 April 2003

Esteem Systems, one of the UK's leading IT systems solutions providers, has signed a contract with leading housing provider, The Places for People Group (PfP), to install, implement and project manage a server and storage consolidation project.

Working alongside one of its key software partners, Sx3, Esteem will take responsibility for the upgrade of core IT systems run by PfP, replacing the current clustered enterprise environment, which has housed the core business application for the past five years.

The implications of this massive project for PfP include greater system access for customers and the ability to access and manipulate copies of the core business data in minutes rather than hours; plus significant financial savings as a result of enhanced clustering and consolidation.

The solution will be delivered by Esteem and Sun Microsystems Professional Service departments and will comprise the consolidation of the existing IT infrastructure from four to two clustered servers; the installation of an application layer for the housing system and the migration of existing direct attached storage into a storage area network environment. This environment will provide a storage platform for all PfP's business requirements at present and in the future, demonstrating Esteem's expertise and keen understanding of its customer's on-going needs.

Esteem will use its expertise of enterprise systems and experience as a Sun Microsystems Datacenter Accredited Reseller to deliver and support the solution based on Sun's Sun Fire 6800 and 280R servers; alongside SunCluster 3.0, Sun Enterprise 9970 SAN, and a V880 back up server with L180 Tape Library and Veritas Netbackup.

Speaking about the project, Jon Thomson, Enterprise Systems Manager at PfP said: "This development will deliver a flexible consolidation solution which can be shared between the Group's main business applications. It will not only enable us to provide more interactive services to our customers, it will also help our employees become more efficient and assist in the delivery of 24/7 information delivery."
