Design Student Held In High Esteem
25 May 2004
Esteem Systems, one of the UK’s leading IT services providers, has selected the work of a final year Graphic Design student as the winning entry in a competition to create a piece of original artwork to reflect the work of Salford University’s Learning Technologies Centre.
Lorrina Christie’s artwork was selected from a number of entries and will now be reproduced and distributed across campus. The competition was sponsored by Esteem Systems, which has worked closely with the Learning Technologies Centre (LTC) at Salford University to establish their IT infrastructure and wanted to celebrate the success of the partnership.
The competition brief was to create a piece of artwork that would encapsulate the essence of the Learning Technologies Centre and portray the keywords “nurture” and “support”. Based within the University’s Clifford Whitworth Library, the LTC aims to provide support for staff wishing to develop their skills in flexible learning and applying new technologies to their teaching and learning activities.
Lorrina Christie chose to present the LTC as the heart of the University in her interpretation of the brief, she said: “I was delighted to win the competition as I was really inspired by the brief. It was very open in terms of where I could take the project, which as a designer I found very exciting. I thought the keywords we were given were a great description of the relationship between the LTC and Esteem Systems.”
Lorrina presented her design at the Learning Technologies Centre to Gary Pearson, Esteem’s Director of Professional Services. Esteem will now fund the production of five hundred limited edition copies of the poster and the original will be exhibited at Lorrina’s end of year show at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on 14, 15 and 16 June. The formal prize presentation and distribution of the posters will take place at Salford University’s second “Education in a Changing Environment Conference” on 13 and 14 September.
