Esteem Wins £300k Contract With Northamptonshire County Council
29 June 2004
Esteem Systems, one of the UK’s leading IT services providers, has been awarded a contract worth in excess of £300k by Northamptonshire County Council Library and Information Services.
The contract will involve the centralisation and consolidation of the Council’s IT hardware and services, dramatically reducing support costs and enhancing services available to citizens. Esteem will deliver a suite of Professional Services including consultancy, engineering, design, installation, training and support services in a project designed to deliver on demand access for library services users. In addition, Esteem will provide a three-year managed service support contract to the Council.
The access solution will be based on Microsoft, Citrix and Wyse technology and will use Talis application software. Citrix’s popular MetaFrame Access Suite will be used within the solution to enable centralised access to the Council’s library applications running on a Sun Microsystems platform. Wyse Winterms will replace legacy devices on the desktop and will use Citrix to deliver information and applications to users, providing greater efficiency and flexibility, while retaining centralised management.
The solution will incorporate a full business continuity solution which will ensure consistent and reliable access to the Council’s database. Security will also be enhanced by using Wyse terminals equipped with Smart Card enabled keyboards for user authentication.
Northamptonshire County Council cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, Peter Dixon, said: “We believe the solution will give us greater flexibility and more focused management over our library services. For the individuals who use our services, there will be obvious improvements and in terms of our long-term objectives, there will be scope for future developments.”
