Esteem Wins £500k Deal With Sunderland C.C.
3 March 2004
Esteem Systems, one of the UK’s leading IT infrastructure solutions providers, has been awarded a contract by Sunderland City Council for a consolidation project of a kind which, industry analysts predict, could reduce IT and support costs by up to 50%.
According to the Meta Group, by 2004, 75% of IT organisations will have a consolidation strategy plan to save costs. In response to this, industry analysts estimate that companies will save 20-50% of their IT and support budgets by consolidating their information systems.
The contract awarded to Esteem by Sunderland City Council is worth in excess of £500k and will involve consolidating all of the Council’s major transactional applications onto one server platform to deliver significant savings in terms of administration, maintenance and IT management. The project will also see the consolidation of much of the Council’s IT storage into a new Storage Area Network (SAN) system designed to improve performance; simplify management; optimise storage utilisation; increase availability and lower the total cost of ownership.
The project will result in Sunderland City Council, in time, replacing its legacy systems. The new infrastructure solution will address these issues by removing the need for new servers to be purchased every time the system requires an application to be added; and will bring business benefits such as faster access to data, standardisation of processes and architecture flexibility in the future. Esteem will be working to ensure minimal disruption to every day operations at the Council.
Lawrence Thompson, Assistant Head of ICT at Sunderland City Council, said: “This project is set to drive Sunderland City Council forward by maximising what we can achieve through our IT systems. We were looking at ways of providing internal members of our team with quicker response times and greater availability and feel that the performance and resilience built into the Sun F12 platform fulfils these criteria. Members of the public should also see a more unified service which is of tremendous importance to us.”
