Ethiopian school built thanks to £10,000 donation from Esteem
7 September 2006

Wetherby based firm, Esteem Systems, has raised over £10,000 to help to build a new school in Ethiopia.

Employees at the company, one of the UK’s leading IT services companies, took part in a range of events through the year to raise the cash for their adopted charity, World Vision, and Esteem Systems matched the figure pound for pound.

Staff at Esteem select a different charity every year and have a proud record of donating money to good causes. Since 2003 they have raised over £50,000.

Annette Humphries, Major Donor Manager from World Vision, says: “The help we’ve had from Esteem means we can build and equip two new classrooms in the village of Adet in Ethiopia. It’ll pay for the building, desks, blackboards, textbooks, equipment; basically everything the school needs.”

“It means so much to the people of Adet who have been trying to build a school for a while. I went out to Ethiopia to see the building work start and the villagers were literally dancing with joy when the diggers starting laying the foundations.

Esteem’s Commercial Director, Alastair Kitching, says: “I’m proud to work in a company where everyone is committed to helping a charity like World Vision. Everyone at Esteem has backed the cause and it shows the teamwork and camaraderie there is here.”
