Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council Saves £1 Million With Managed Service From Esteem

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council will save £1m over five years after signing a contract with Esteem Systems and implementing major improvements to their IT infrastructure.
The £2.1m contract with Esteem, one of the UK’s leading IT services providers, will reduce operational costs and drive efficiency gains across various council directorates including children’s services, health and social care, corporate resources.
Esteem has designed, installed and will manage an innovative new infrastructure based on Sun Microsystems technology, providing improved system performance and comprehensive disaster recovery capability.
The contract includes a five year managed service agreement under which Esteem will take full responsibility for managing the new infrastructure. Esteem Systems’ team of highly trained staff will monitor the Solaris and Oracle systems 24x7 minimising the risk of downtime and reducing costs.
The council’s Cabinet Member for Finance and Information Society Technologies, Norman Keats, said: “Esteem won the tender because of their innovative approach to technical design and their ability to provide quality support. What they proposed was very different to all the other companies we approached and their solution was competitively priced.”
“We are improving efficiency while also reducing costs, meaning tax payers in Knowsley will get better value for money. The managed service contract also frees up our IT staff to work on strategic projects rather than getting tied down with routine maintenance task.”
