Shetland Islands Council Selects Esteem To Improve Services To Citizens With a Centralised Disaster Recovery Solution
21st April 2008

Shetland Islands Council has selected a £250k centralised disaster recovery and enterprise back-up solution from Esteem Systems to reduce costs and guarantee access to online services for its citizens.

The Esteem solution is designed to keep Council services up and running to ensure, for example, staff have access to vital information immediately and citizens can use the Council’s 24-hour secure internet payment service.

Based on Sun Microsystems and Symantec Netbackup, Esteem’s solution will modernise the Council’s infrastructure and will be vital for the continual provision of electronic services for Shetland Islands citizens. The reliable, resilient infrastructure also provides centralised management and a manual failover process to support the automated disaster recovery system at the back-up facility, which takes over in the event of a failure at the primary data site.

“We are continually working to provide the best services to our citizens and we need to have the best systems in place for us to do this,” explains Tim Bentley, ICT Security and Operation Manager at Shetland Islands Council. “Esteem understood our organisation’s very specific needs and we are working together to look at options for a full business continuity operation in the future.”

Esteem also provides a dedicated service level agreement (SLA) and single point of contact for all of the Council’s maintenance and support needs, including vital remote support, saving both time and resource.

“We are delighted to have extended our services to Shetland Islands Council,” says Alastair Kitching, Commercial Director at Esteem. “As an IT lifecycle provider, we are able to develop and give the right system for the Council, so that it can be used to its best advantage.”
