Midsized IT managed service providers are proving to be an increasingly popular choice as customers look for niche skills and a more flexible approach to IT outsourcing.
As outsourcing customers look beyond the large Tier 1 providers, the economies of scale that previously made larger providers more appealing are being ignored. Customers are not solely interested in the largest operation or the cheapest price, and instead are seeking out more responsive, agile providers with specialist skills.
Tier 1 providers still dominate the market when it comes to securing large offshore outsourcing deals, however there is a growing realisation that midsize managed service providers can be an excellent fit for the small to medium sized customers, who are often overlooked by the large providers.
Specialisation is one of the biggest advantages customers are experiencing when they choose to work with midsized IT outsourcing providers. Smaller providers will tend to have more in-depth expertise in specific areas, rather than a broader less specialised approach that is common amongst Tier 1 providers.
Managed service provider, Esteem Systems, has seen an increasing number of small and medium sized businesses looking to address their infrastructure and IT management needs through outsourcing. Joe Connolly, CEO of Esteem, commented; “We have seen a growing number of SMEs coming to us seeking a more personal approach to their IT outsourcing needs. We work with customers of all sizes and we always work hard to provide a tailored service to all of our customers, regardless of their size. The level of agility, flexibility and responsiveness that we’re able to provide is difficult for large Tier 1 outsourcing providers to match”.
