Nottingham Building Society has deployed Symantec Appliances and Netbackup software to further heighten the security of their customer data.
Upgrading from a previous tape solution, the new technology designed and implemented by IT services provider Esteem, encrypts and instantaneously replicates the data to the building society’s disaster recovery site.
This means that customers’ financial and personal information is immediately recoverable in the event of a technical or natural disaster at their head office. The data is fully encrypted at rest and when being moved from site to site, ensuring its protection.
Computer Services Manager for Nottingham Building Society, Gordon Stillie, said: “The security and confidentiality of our customers’ data is of extreme importance. This system upgrade does not just benefit our customers, but also acts as a strategic step moving forward in the effective management of our data.”
Backups can now be carried out more frequently, and much faster, with instant deduplication of the building society’s operating systems, dramatically reducing the amount of data needed to be stored and managed.
Nottingham Building Society can now have a unified view of their entire backup environment, and can manage this environment from one console. The Symantec solution provides the building society with a way to analyse and structure their data, making future data growth more predictable and controlled.
The comprehensive suite of Symantec products are designed to encrypt, back up and recover data more securely and efficiently.
Alastair Kitching, Sales & Marketing Director for Esteem, said: “Financial institutions are under increasing amounts of pressure to protect their customer’s data. The solution we have designed for Nottingham Building Society not only provides the encryption necessary to ensure this, but sets a framework for the future of their increasing data requirements.”
