Managed Service provider, Esteem Systems has recently hosted a successful Thought Leadership Roundtable on the subject of IT Outsourcing at The Legal IT Forum held at Hanbury Manor, Hertfordshire.
Representatives from many of the UK’s top law firms attended, including Irwin Mitchell, Linklaters, Slaughter and May and Norton Rose, as well as several international law firms. The Roundtable Discussion led by Esteem and Tim Kiel, IT Director at Irwin Mitchell, focused on the role that IT Outsourcing plays in today’s legal sector.
Finding suppliers who are willing to spend the time to understand customer’s needs arose as a prominent issue for the legal firms, which was emphasised by Derek Southall, Partner at Wragge & Co. Delegates suggested that many Tier 1 IT Outsourcers in particular have a ‘one size fits all’ approach, and fail to develop services to meet their individual needs and challenges. The message was clear, for IT Outsourcers to design a service that adds real value to their client’s business; they must invest time and energy into understanding that business first.
The Roundtable also indicated a difference in IT Outsourcing approaches depending on the size of the firm. Smaller legal firms tended to outsource as much as possible, whereas larger firms are more likely to select key functions to outsource, such as helpdesk support, maintenance or field services.
Tim Kiel of Irwin Mitchell spoke positively about the benefits of working with a medium sized IT Outsourcing provider like Esteem, in terms of the level of service and flexibility provided.
Joe Connolly, Chief Executive of Esteem commented, “The Legal IT Forum discussion raised a number of really interesting issues around the subject of IT Outsourcing. There are clearly a number of key benefits that legal firms can gain by adopting an IT Outsourcing approach, but it’s important to work with a partner who focuses on the specific needs of a client and creates a bespoke solution to suit them.”
Author and futurist Mark Stevenson also delivered a keynote speech at the event on the importance of embracing change. Other key discussion topics included mobility, communication, flexibility, cloud computing and data analytics.
